Projects

Completed Projects
Jacobsburg Historical Society Display: The Kentucky Rifle Foundation provided technical advice to the Jacobsburg Historical Society for the development of a Pennsylvania Longrifle Display housed at the JHS museum. The Kentucky Rifle Foundation made a $5,000 grant to the museum to fund, in part, the development of the display which opened to the public in December of 2003. The display covers the major gunsmiths schools operating in Pennsylvania during the 'Golden Age' of the 'Kentucky Rifle'. A map of Pennsylvania coordinates each area represented with a color slide of a rifle from that area. The museum itself is dedicated to the Henry family and the arms and accoutrements made by this family throughout their manufacturing history.

Selected Articles from the Kentucky Rifle Association Bulletin - Vol. 1-30: A deluxe hard cover book containing the best 157 articles published in the KRA bulletin over the last 30 years. This 552 page book weighs close to 5lbs and contains information never before available to the general public. There are over 750 halftones and line drawings included. More than 70 gunsmiths and gunsmiths' families are reviewed and over 20 schools of operation are discussed. This book was compiled by the Kentucky Rifle Foundation Book Committee and recognizes those authors and collectors who put their research efforts on paper and freely dedicated their accomplishments and knowledge to Preserving the Heritage of the Kentucky Rifle. The book was made available in July 2005 at $75 per copy + $12.50 S&H. (Ordering Instructions)

Kentucky Rifle Photographs - Vol 1, Issue 1 (CD): A collection of over 200 photographs of a variety of Kentucky Rifles by more than 80 gunsmiths from the 18th and 19th century. Available for sale at $16.95 each plus $5.00 S&H.

KRA Presentation: This slide presentation will be available to the general public in November 2005 through a KRA member. The slide presentation and "show and tell" exhibit is designed to highlight the importance of the Kentucky Rifle in the development of the United States of America. Each program will have actual examples of the 'Kentucky Rifle' for the public to examine.

Future Projects
Museum Loan Program: A project designed to bring the Kentucky Rifle story to the general public by way of displays on loan to major American museums.

Historical Marker Program: Members of the Kentucky Rifle Association know the location of the homes and shops of over 30 "Golden Age" gunsmiths. This project will be used to help the various states interested in this information determine the location of a Historical Marker.

Powder Horn Book: Initial conversation has started among the KRF board regarding the development of a book dedicated to screw tip powder horns. There are several KRA members who are experts on the subject and it is felt a book on this type of powder horn would be well received.

Research Scholarship: This program, when completed, will make limited funds available to non-KRA members to aid in their research efforts on the gunsmiths who made the Kentucky rifle. This is a complicated program and will have to meet IRS requirements before it can be released to the general public.
