Kentucky
Rifle Foundation
History
The idea of a Kentucky Rifle Foundation was introduced to the
Board of Directors of the Kentucky Rifle Association at a Board
meeting in 1998. A past President of the KRA suggested to the
Board members that the original intent of the founders of the
KRA was to Preserve the Heritage
of the Kentucky Rifle.
The concept of a Foundation was discussed and during the following
year, 1999, the Board of the Directors of the Association formed
the first operational Board of the Kentucky Rifle Foundation.
The first KRF Officers and Board members, primarily pas KRA
Presidents, petitioned the IRS for tax exempt status and developed
the initial guidelines and procedures in which to operate as
a legitimate Foundation.
In 2003, Officer and Board positions were opened to members
from the KRA general membership. This group was tasked with
fine tuning the policies and procedures in which to operate
as a legitimate Foundation.
The IRS granted the Foundation 501-C-3 status in June of 2004
after a 3-year probation period. This classification allows
individuals making a material or monetary donation to the Kentucky
Rifle Foundation to list the fair market value of their gift
on their tax return.
Today, the Foundation includes 4 Officers and 10 Board members.
The demographic proportions of the KRA are well represented
by these 14 individuals.
The vision of the Foundation is to provide and maintain a tax
deductible vehicle by which members and friends of the KRA may
make donations of funds, stocks, bonds, objects of art and other
personal properties that will be managed by the Foundation's
Board of Directors to Preserve
the Heritage of the Kentucky Rifle.
